Philosophy & Principles

Philosophy Of Staffing Principles

Staffing is one of the most important aspects in the provision of social and health care, and hence we consider it to be of high priority in both the Service’s philosophy and approach, and this is reflected in our Investor in People award.

All staff have signed a commitment to adhere to the Skills For Care Code of Practice for Social Care Workers and Employers and have had DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) Adult First Check and Enhanced Check for Regulated Activity.  These checks are also obtained for visiting professionals (e.g. chiropodist, exercise teacher and art teacher).

Aims
  1. To provide recruitment, training and supervision in accordance with the relevant government guidance and with good personnel practice.
  2. To promote the "How to treat us with dignity" philosophy produced by Sunny Bank PRS clients.
  3. To provide a ratio of staff to client, to facilitate (re)habilitation programmes.
  4. To employ highly experienced and trained staff in psychiatric rehabilitation.
  5. To employ staff who are motivated towards maintaining and developing the recognised principles of good practice within social care.
  6. To recognise, use and encourage staff members’ individual psychiatric expertise and qualifications.
  7. To employ a high ratio of trained staff.
  8. To employ a consistent group of staff, and to avoid using relief/bank staff.
  9. To provide pay based on the Real Living Wage, and working conditions in line with the NHS and Social Services.
  10. To operate a staff induction programme, and ongoing "in house" and external staff training.
  11. To encourage the use of staff’s personal interests, skills and qualities.
  12. To consider, and wherever possible, accommodate home commitments, and welcome staff’s family involvement in the Service.
  13. To encourage active staff involvement, and awareness in all aspects the Service.
  14. To encourage and maintain professional attitudes, working practices and relationships within the Service, and with outside agencies (e.g. NHS, Social Services and Education).
  15. To encourage non-institutional working practices and attitudes.
  16. To promote an environment, which encourages non-hierarchical working practices, and allows staff initiative and feedback.
  17. To develop a sense of responsibility, reliability and commitment to the Service.
  18. To develop a sense of personal and professional pride in their place of work.
  19. To develop a supportive and happy staff group.
